Alpine have added former Mercedes F1 design chief Mike Elliott to their management roster as their chief technical officer.
According to a statement, Elliott will “lead and be responsible for overseeing the technical and engineering activities” at the team’s manufacturing plant in Enstone.
This is the latest development as Alpine looks to restore its competitiveness, after falling to the bottom of the pack in 2025, per BBC Sport.

This appointment sees Elliott returning to the team, where he served as principal aerodynamicist from 2008 to 2012, when the team was known as Renault and later Lotus.
Following his time at Alpine, Elliott went on to work for Mercedes for over 10 years as head of aerodynamics, technical director and then chief technical officer.
“A proven leader in motorsport, Mike has made significant contributions toward winning eight constructors’ and eight drivers’ championships,” said an Alpine statement.
Elliott has his role within the hierarchy of the team’s engineering department, higher than executive technical director David Sanchez, who arrived in May 2024.
No comments were made in the statement from either executive advisor Flavio Briatore, the de facto team boss, or the managing director Steve Nielsen, their de facto team principal.
Elliott will begin his role next week at the team’s factory in Enstone, Oxfordshire, and Flavio Briatore and Steve Nielsen will discuss his recruitment at the next race, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on 24-26 September.
