Why PSG’s Boss Refuses to Call Himself ‘The Chosen One’

Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has rebuffed the “Special One” label ahead of their Champions League clash against Villarreal on Tuesday.

Enrique has guided the French giants to back-to-back Champions League titles.

“We have all won, we have all lost,” he reporters during a press conference. “I have been through countless situations where I was considered a ‘fraud’ by a lot of people, and that fraud has kept evolving and improving, because that is the mindset a coach must have, TNTsports quoted.

“And now, everyone thinks I’m ‘the chosen one’ or I don’t know what. And this is all a lie, all a lie.
“The important thing is to follow your path. And along the path, the beautiful thing is that there are potholes, curves, and climbs.
“Then the downhills also appear, which are very rewarding, but in the end, you appreciate the bad moments more. And if this is a ‘bad moment’ for Villarreal, quote-unquote, I am sure they will get many positive things out of it.”

PSG are making a habit of winning. They’ve now won nine games in a row in all competitions, and they travel to Spain live on TNT Sports 4 on HBO Max at 20:00 UK time.

In the Champions League, Luis Enrique’s side lead the league phase table with three wins from three. Their last two outings were statement victories over potential title rivals Barcelona and Manchester City, both by 4-2.

That makes them heavy favourites against a Villarreal side who lost 1-0 to Espanyol at the weekend and are ninth in La Liga, with only three points from their Champions League games so far. Enrique, though, spoke passionately before the game about taking a long-term perspective.

Vitinha and Doué Shine as PSG Hand Barcelona First Loss of Season

Three superb individual goals from Désiré Doué, Lamine Yamal and Vitinha decided a breathless night at the Parc des Princes, where Champions League holders Paris St-Germain beat Barcelona 4-2.
