Behind Dylan Harper’s career night and a clinical fourth-quarter execution, the Spurs have reclaimed control of the series. Yankee Scores breaks down the comeback and the latest updates on Victor Wembanyama’s status for Sunday.
The San Antonio Spurs, without Victor Wembanyama, defeated the Portland Trail Blazers 120-108 on Friday night to take a 2-1 series lead.
Dylan Harper Steps Up in the Void
Dylan Harper had 27 points and 10 rebounds for the Spurs, who were down by 15 points in the third quarter. The first-round series will continue with Game 4 on Sunday at the Moda Center.
Spurs coach Mitch Johnson said before the game that Wembanyama would not be playing while recovering from a concussion he suffered in Game 2 on Tuesday night.
Jrue Holiday scored 29 points for the Trail Blazers, who are playing their first home playoff game since 2021, but could not capitalise on Wembanyama’s absence.

The 21-5 Surge That Silenced Portland
The Trail Blazers led 82-67 at the end of the third quarter. However, the Spurs responded with a 21-5 run to lead 88-87 into the fourth. A step-back jumper and two free throws by Castle put the Spurs ahead 105-95 at the half of the fourth quarter and the Trail Blazers crumpled.

Johnson declined to say how Wembanyama was doing, but said he was improving. This season, he averaged 25 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists and a league-leading 3.1 blocks per game. It was not clear if he would play Sunday.

The Wembanyama Watch Continues
Wembanyama’s watched from the bench as Luke Kornet started against the Trail Blazers and scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
The Trail Blazers ran out to a 15-2 lead in the first half. They lead 50-43 and 65-59 at half-time after Jerami Grant’s 3-pointer.
Fox was given an offensive foul in the last moments of the half when he ran to the basket and elbowed Deni Avdija in the face. The call was overturned to a defensive foul on Avdija, who had chipped a tooth but continued to play.
