Canada made history by securing a 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina in the first men’s World Cup match ever held on Canadian soil, Yankee Scores reports.
Bosnia Strikes First
The match in Toronto began poorly for the co-hosts. In the 19th minute, Jovo Lukic scored with a header, giving Bosnia a 1-0 lead, according to ESPN. This early goal put Canada in a difficult position, forcing Jesse Marsch’s team to chase the game from the start.
Canada Fights Back
Canada did not give up. As the match progressed, the home team found their rhythm, took control of possession, and pushed Bosnia back into their half. Their efforts paid off in the 78th minute when substitute Cyle Larin stepped up.
After a clever touch from Promise David, Larin finished calmly to equalize at 1-1, igniting the crowd at the Toronto Stadium

A Historic Result
The draw means more than just a single point. It’s Canada’s first-ever point at a World Cup. The team had lost all six of its past matches in previous tournaments, in 1986 and 2022.
Canada also avoided a tough piece of history, missing out on becoming only the second World Cup host nation to lose its opening match.
Canada will play Qatar on Thursday, while Bosnia will face Switzerland that same day
