French driver Pierre Gasly has regained a podium finish at the Monaco Grand Prix following a successful appeal by his Alpine racing team regarding a penalty for exceeding the pit-lane speed limit, Yankee Scores reports.
Gasly has been moved back from seventh place to third after receiving two penalties of five seconds each for exceeding the pit-lane speed limit during the race.
Gasly was among five other drivers that received a similar penalty during the Monaco Grand Prix, which is more than usual.

A ‘right of review’ hearing initiated by Alpine found out that vehicles could travel through a shorter route than used by race officials in their calculations.
Based on the data and Alpine’s argument, the stewards agreed that Gasly had never violated the pit-lane speed limit of 60 km/h.
Mercedes Inaction Cost George Russell a Podium
The decision comes as a huge setback for George Russell who has been given a drive-through penalty for pit-lane speeding, resulting in a movement from third to 13th positions.
Mercedes, Russell’s team, and other affected teams decided not to challenge the decision despite knowing that their drivers had not broken the regulations.
Gasly was guilty of two offences.’ In addition to Russell, the other drivers were McLaren driver Oscar Piastri, Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton, and teammate Franco Colapinto.
Hamilton’s penalty did not impact his second-place finish because Ferrari made sure he was able to complete his penalty without any negative effect on his position through a safety car situation.
Piastri, who was moved from fourth place to fifth by Gasly being reinstated, had to give up three places while fulfilling his penalty.
According to the verdict issued by the stewards concerning the appeal hearing, they raised a question about the number of penalties for exceeding speed limits at the time the third penalty occurred.
