Deebo Samuel Returns to 49ers on One-Year Deal

Deebo Samuel

As the status of receiver Ricky Pearsall’s right knee injury continues to raise some concerns for the team, the San Francisco 49ers have decided to bring back the familiar face to the franchise in the form of wideout Deebo Samuel.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported on Thursday night via his sources that the 49ers and Samuel have reached an agreement on a one-year deal worth as much as $7 million.

As the San Francisco 49ers stated in the press release Wednesday, Ricky Pearsall is currently suffering from swelling in his right knee’s posterior cruciate ligament, and there is some “concern” regarding his injury. The team added that they were “exploring all options,” which most likely includes surgery, which will sideline Pearsall for an extended period of time.

To that list, another wideout, veteran Christian Kirk, has missed the last few practice sessions due to a strained calf muscle.

All these injuries contributed to the fact that the Niners signed a three-receiver group on Wednesday but decided to sign Samuel.

Deebo Samuel was originally selected by the 49ers in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft, playing with the team until the 2025 offseason when he was dealt to the Washington Commanders for a fifth-round pick.
