Nuno Espírito Santo’s rescue mission fell just short after Tottenham ground out a 1-0 win over Everton to escape the drop by a mere two points; Yankee Scores reports…

West Ham was two points behind Spurs and needed more than just a win to avoid relegation; they required Spurs to lose to Everton in order to survive. The Hammers eventually secured a 3-0 win over Leeds, but Spurs grinding out a 1-0 win against Everton, courtesy of Palhinha’s goal, officially dropped the Hammers to the Championship.
It ends the Hammers’ 14 year stay in the Premier League.
Former Chelsea manager Graham Potter began the 2025/26 campaign with West Ham, but the club dismissed him in September 2025 due to a poor run of results.
Nuno Guides the Hammer to the Championship
The Hammers then named former Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo as the new manager. Unfortunately, Nuno’s effort to guide the London club to safety was to no avail.
This development represents a major shift for West Ham, which has established itself as a mid-table team. The London club may have to sell some players, particularly the ones with high wages, ahead of next season at the championship.
The Hammers now join Burnley and Wolves as the three relegated teams to the Championship this season.
For Tottenham Hotspur, it is a close shave as tributes are pouring in for Roberto De Zerbi for guiding Spurs to safety.
