Stewart in action for Liberty against Fever

New York Liberty held off the Indiana Fever 83-75 at Barclays Center on Sunday, with Breanna Stewart delivering a clutch, foul-drawing performance to seal a hard-fought home victory, Yankee Scores reports.

Stewart Masterclass

Stewart finished the game with a high of 30 points, but her efficiency numbers revealed the true impact of her performance. She went to the line 21 times, making 18 free throws at 85.7%. She also grabbed 8 rebounds and got 4 steals. The Liberty relied on her heavily in the fourth quarter, outscoring Indiana 29-18 to turn around a game they were losing after the first.

New York shot only 36.4% from the field, struggling from outside the arc with just 2-of-18 on three-pointers. However, they managed 33-of-40 from the free-throw line which made a significant difference.

Astier and Sabally Provide Key Support

Off the bench, Pauline Astier made an impact. She hit 4-of-6 shots, went a perfect 4-of-4 from the line, and finished with 12 points, 3 assists, and a steal. Satou Sabally contributed 13 points, effectively attacking the paint and going 5-of-7 on two-pointers.

Jonquel Jones had a less active scoring night with 8 points, but she grabbed 12 rebounds and provided 4 assists. All round team performance from the New York Liberty

Clark Can’t Lift Fever Despite Billings’ Heroics

Liberty came into Sunday as 61.3% favorites, having won three games in a row before the Commissioner’s Cup matchup, Per ESPN

Sabrina Ionescu was out with back soreness, so New York leaned even more on Stewart, and she came through.

Caitlin Clark had 9 assists, the highest on either side, but an off shooting night limited her to just 10 points on 4-of-14 from the field. She also picked up 5 personal fouls, which affected her performance in critical moments.

The standout player for the Fever was Monique Billings, who shot nearly perfectly: 6-of-7 from the field, including 5-of-5 on two-pointers, for 15 points and 8 rebounds. Kelsey Mitchell added 21 points but struggled with 4 turnovers.

Turning Point: The Fourth Quarter

Indiana led 25-21 after the first quarter and mostly kept pace with New York through the middle two periods. The Fever even held a 12-point lead at one point. However, the Liberty’s impressive free-throw shooting in the fourth quarter, thanks largely to Stewart, gave New York the edge they needed. The Liberty scored 29 points in the fourth quarter compared to Indiana’s 18 to secure the win.

New York celebrates a strong home victory, while Indiana will regret a fourth quarter that slipped away.
