The Cleveland Browns will acquire offensive lineman Tytus Howard from the Houston Texans once the new NFL league year begins on March 11.
Howard, 29, brings versatility and experience. He started games at three different positions last season and has made 93 career starts in seven years.
“I wasn’t surprised,” Howard told KPRC2. “They’re trying to get younger and pay some guys. I ain’t mad. I kind of knew it was going to happen.”
Connection to Cleveland
Howard is close friends with Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson, another former Texan. Drafted 23rd overall in 2019 out of Alabama State, Howard now reunites with Watson in Cleveland.
ESPN reported the Browns will send a fifth‑round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Howard is expected to sign a three‑year extension worth up to $63 million.
Browns’ Offensive Line Concerns
Cleveland’s offensive line has been a concern. Only Dawand Jones is under contract through 2026, and he has battled multiple injuries. General manager Andrew Berry recently said Jones is on track for training camp.
Texans’ Strategy
This trade continues a trend of roster reshaping in Houston. Last spring, the Texans dealt Laremy Tunsil to Washington and moved Cam Robinson to Cleveland. Robinson is now a free agent, leaving Howard’s departure as another step toward youth and flexibility.
Final Outlook
For Cleveland, Howard provides stability and depth at a position of need. For Houston, the move reflects a commitment to younger talent and financial balance.
