The host of the last edition of the FIBA World Cup in 2023 was Japan, Philippines and Indonesia, while the next edition of the FIBA World Cup Qatar will take center stage (2027),. But all eyes are already on 2031. The World Cup is returning to Europe, but the BIG question is, which nation will take center stage?
Hosting Rights Confirmed
After three consecutive editions in Asia (China (2019), Japan, Indonesia, Philippines (2023), and Qatar (2027)), the tournament will return to Europe for the first time since Spain (2014).
The FIBA Central Board has officially awarded France the hosting rights for the 2031 Basketball World Cup. Three cities, Lille, Lyon, and Paris, will stage the tournament from August 29 to September 14, with the final phase taking place in Paris.

Why France?
Although this will be France’s first time hosting the FIBA World Cup, they have a strong résumé of organizing tournament. They hosted the Eurobasket in 2015, in 2020, they hosted the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
