With six Premier League titles already in his cabinet, the City sensation is doubling down on his Etihad legacy despite a tough battle for minutes lately. But with the World Cup on the horizon, will this new deal give him the boost he needs to secure a spot in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad? Yankee Scores has the full contract breakdown.
Phil Foden has reached an agreement in principle with Manchester City to extend his contract at the Etihad until at least 2030, sources say.
Principle Deal
The deal will see the winger sign until the summer of 2030, with an extra year’s option attached.
His current deal was set to expire in 2027.
However, according to insiders around Foden and the club, there are some final details left to sort out.
Having been with the Citizens all his life, Foden has made more than 350 appearances for the Premier League side in his career.
Lack of Playing Time
Sources in touch with Foden say that the player never thought about joining another club despite being overlooked by Pep Guardiola from the beginning of the season.
Foden has not started a game in the English Premier League since March and will have to fight to win a place in the England team for the World Cup in the autumn.
England Uncertainty
England coach Thomas Tuchel had stated that Foden’s place in the 24-man squad wasn’t guaranteed, despite being the only player to start both games in England’s final camp before the tournament.
Having played his way onto the team at the age of 17 under Guardiola, Foden now has more than 365 appearances and six Premier League championships, one Champions League title and two FA Cups with Manchester City.
