The undefeated postseason run of Thunder is OVER after an insane double-overtime thriller. Yankee Scores has the full double-OT breakdown!
Oklahoma City Thunder had been cruising in the first two rounds of playoffs with flying colors and without tasting any defeat.
But none had ever tested the Oklahoma City Thunder with the level Victor Wembanyama and San Antonio Spurs offered.
A Spurs team that had defeated OKC four times out of five regular-season games suffocated the usually offensive Oklahoma City offense in the first half of the game and then played down to the last minute to win the series opener with the score of 122-115 in double overtime against the Thunder.
Wemby’s Historic, 41-Point Masterclass
Victor Wembanyama was magnificent as he scored 41 points, grabbed 24 rebounds and added three assists and three blocks in the game which lasted for 49 minutes, the longest time in his nascent career.

The Supporting Cast Steps Up
Stephon Castle scored 17 points, Devin Vassell and Keldon Johnson added 13 points each, while Julian Champagnie contributed 11 for San Antonio, which was missing its point guard De’Aaron Fox due to right ankle stiffness.
“A great effort — from everybody,” said Wembanyama, who, at 22 years, 134 days, became the youngest player with at least 40 points and 20 rebounds in a playoff game. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was 22 years, 343 days when he had a 40/20 game in the 1970 NBA Finals.
With his statistical performance, Harper has gone down in history to become only the second rookie to score 20 points, grab 10 rebounds, dish out five assists, and steal five balls in an NBA playoff game, alongside Magic Johnson.

For the Thunder, Alex Caruso, playing as a substitute player, scored 31 points, his second-best ever NBA playoff scoring game, to end the Thunder’s playoff-winning run of nine games starting from Game 7 of their last year’s Finals.
SGA’s MVP Coronation Spoiled
Coming back after missing six games because of a left hamstring injury, Jalen Williams put up 26 points, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who became the two-time MVP winner in a row on that evening, put up 24 points with 12 assists, but he struggled from the field, shooting 7 of 23.
A Rare Playoff Spectacle
This was only the sixth time in NBA playoff history that the Game 1 had gone into double overtime, something which had never happened before since Spurs versus Warriors matchup in 2013.
In those crucial minutes of Game 1, Wembanyama scored 16 points on the back of 6-for-9 shooting, accounting for both the scoring and assists in 18 of the Spurs’ 31 points in the final 15 minutes.
The Game 2 will take place in Oklahoma City on Wednesday.
