Atlanta Hawks are close to acquiring Oklahoma City Thunder guard Aaron Wiggins for two second-round draft picks, Yankee Scores reports.
The Thunder will receive Atlanta’s 2030 second-round pick and the less favorable of the Hawks’ or Los Angeles Lakers’ 2032 second-round pick, ESPN sources said.
The trade drops Oklahoma City’s projected tax penalty from $213 million to $152 million, per ESPN’s Bobby Marks. The trade also creates a roster spot for the Thunder, who now will have 14 players under contract, including Lu Dort, Isaiah Hartenstein and Kenrich Williams. Those three have a team option for next year.
The Aaron Wiggins Acquisition
In the meantime, the Hawks acquire a 27-year-old guard who played a key role on the Thunder’s championship team in 2024-25. Wiggins averaged 12.0 points and 3.9 rebounds in 23 minutes per game during the regular season of the Thunder’s title season and averaged 6.0 points in 13.8 minutes in that postseason run.
The 6-5 forward averaged 9.4 points in 65 games last season with 21 starts.
The McCollum Extension
On Sunday, the Hawks were busy, agreeing to a one-year, $21 million contract extension with guard C.J. McCollum, his agent Sam Goldfeder of Excel Sports Management told Charania.
Wiggins, taken 55th overall in the 2021 draft, adds to the Hawks’ collection of young, promising players seeking a bigger opportunity in Atlanta. Last summer the Hawks added Nickeil Alexander-Walker, who averaged a career-high 20.8 points as a starter and was the league’s Most Improved Player.
Jonathan Kuminga’s Deal
Prior to the trade deadline, the Atlanta Hawks acquired Jonathan Kuminga from the Golden State Warriors as well. The ex-Warrior, who was looking for a bigger role, averaged 12.2 points and 5.6 rebounds in 23.1 minutes. The Hawks have a $24.3 million team option on Kuminga’s contract that must be decided on by June 29.
The Hawks, who led eventual NBA champion New York Knicks 2-1 before losing in the first round, also have the eighth and 23rd picks in this week’s draft.
The Thunder hold the No. 12 and No. 17 picks.
