Quarterback Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have made no headway on a contract extension, Yankee Scores reports.
Sources tell ESPN that Mayfield and his representatives have yet to make substantive progress with Tampa Bay on a new deal and a contract is not anticipated to be reached by the quarterback’s declared deadline.

Mayfield is in the last year of the three-year, $100.5 million deal he signed with the Buccaneers in 2024 and his current deal has an average annual worth of almost $33.5 million, below the league’s highest-paid quarterbacks.
The former No. 1 overall pick has voiced a continued desire to stay in Tampa Bay for the long run.
He earlier said the two parties were “not anywhere close” to an agreement and hinted that he would stop addressing contract problems once training camp started
Mayfield’s situation follows three seasons in Tampa Bay, where he helped the franchise to two NFC South titles and earned two Pro Bowl selection.
But he had his statistically least effective season in 2025 with the Buccaneers with 3,693 passing yards, 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
While talks have broken down, there is no sign either side has shut the door on a long-term deal.
The Buccaneers have been upfront about the fact that Mayfield is still very much in their plans, but there’s still a financial gap between the sides.
