Domingo Acevedo, a veteran right-hander pitching for the Colorado Rockies’ Triple-A affiliate, has been hit with an 80-game suspension after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance under Minor League Baseball’s drug program.
The ban will sideline Acevedo for the bulk of the remainder of the minor league season. The specific substance he tested positive for has not been disclosed.

A Winding Road Back
Acevedo signed a minor league contract with the Rockies earlier this year and had been assigned to the Albuquerque Isotopes, Colorado’s Triple-A club, where he was expected to provide experienced bullpen depth.
His path to Albuquerque was anything but conventional. After beginning his professional career in the New York Yankees system, Acevedo also spent time with the Oakland Athletics organization, making his most recent major league appearance back in 2023.
Over the years, he pitched extensively in the Mexican League, appearing for teams including the Yucatan Leones, Campeche Piratas and Jalisco Charros before signing on with Colorado’s system.
Across his minor and independent league career, Acevedo has posted a 34-19 record with 10 saves and a 3.41 ERA in 177 games, dating back to his professional debut in 2014, per ESPN
The suspension is a significant setback for a pitcher who was hoping to work his way back to affiliated baseball’s top level after several years bouncing around winter and independent circuits.
It also adds Acevedo’s name to a growing list of players disciplined under MLB’s minor league drug program this season, a program separate from the major league policy but carrying the same 80-game penalty for a first offense involving performance-enhancing substances.
No further roster corresponding move has been confirmed by the Rockies organization at this time.
