San Antonio Spurs Keep Rolling Without Their Phenom

On Thursday night, the Spurs crushed the Los Angeles Clippers 118-99, extending their winning streak to 11 games. Wembanyama, fresh off a 41-point, 18-rebound performance against Golden State, was rested on the second night of a back-to-back. Yet San Antonio didn’t miss a beat, showing off its depth and balance.

Balanced Scoring Leads the Way

Six Spurs finished in double figures. Stephon Castle led the charge with 20 points, while Dylan Harper added 19 off the bench. San Antonio’s offense was sizzling early, shooting 72% in the second quarter and building a 26-point lead before halftime.

The Clippers tried to rally in the third, outscoring the Spurs 34-19 behind Kawhi Leonard’s 8 points and Bennedict Mathurin’s 10. But Castle quickly restored order, scoring eight of San Antonio’s next 10 points to push the lead back to 15.

Clippers Fall in Standings

Leonard finished with 24 points, marking his 53rd straight game with at least 20. Mathurin chipped in 18, and John Collins added 15. Still, the loss dropped the Clippers to ninth in the West, sliding them into play-in territory after previously winning five straight.

Meanwhile, the Spurs improved to 27-2 since February 1 and 11-5 in games without Wembanyama. Their surge keeps them in contention for the top seed, chasing Oklahoma City as the regular season winds down.

What’s Next

The Spurs will visit Denver on Saturday in their final road game of the regular season. The Clippers, meanwhile, head to Sacramento on Sunday, hoping to rebound before the postseason push.

San Antonio’s ability to dominate without Wembanyama sends a clear message: this team is deeper, hungrier, and more dangerous than anyone expected.
