The Washington Wizards are not interested in trading Anthony Davis and have not been taking calls on the star forward, Yankee Scores reports
A source informed ESPN and Andscape that Washington has been strongly opposed to trading the 10-time All-Star this offseason.
“Will Dawkins, the Wizards’ general manager, is a big fan of Davis,” another team executive said, underscoring the front office’s position that he is still crucial to their plans.
Davis may ink a four-year, $275 million extension beginning Aug. 6, a new agreement would supplant the player option he now has for the 2027-28 season for $62.8 million.
Warriors Ignite Interest In The Rumors
The trade rumor mill was in full swing with reports of the Golden State Warriors being interested in LeBron James in free agency.
Draymond Green also declined his $27.6 million player option, which might open the door for Golden State to pursue James while pursuing a Davis deal with Washington, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
The plan was to pair Davis with his former Lakers teammate Lebron James in San Francisco.
Any package given to Washington would presumably have centered around Jimmy Butler, who is presently rehabbing from ACL surgery and is on an expiring $56.8 million contract.
But insiders say there has been little meaningful progress on the transaction.
Washington Focuses On Its Core Business
Davis joined the Wizards in a February trade with Dallas, part of a young nucleus that includes No. 1 overall pick AJ Dybantsa.
Washington also inked Trae Young to a four-year, $212 million agreement this offseason.
Both Young and Davis came to Washington eager to prove themselves after being traded by their old teams
That intensity should transfer to the young roster moving into next season.
