Alec Pierce still hasn’t practiced and Josh Downs is injured, too. With those two players out, the concern is how thin the Colts receiver roaster is
Pierce remains on the PUP list as he recovers from ankle surgery he had in March and there’s no set date for when he’s coming back.

Downs was supposed to be the one receiver the Colts didn’t need to worry about this year, but he sat out Saturday’s practice with a groin issue.
He’s supposed to be Indianapolis’ most significant returning receiver, after Pittman Jr was traded to Pittsburgh in March.
But both of the Colts’ top two receivers missed the same session with Thursday’s preseason game against the Patriots quickly approaching.
Now this leaves Ashton Dulin and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine as the next men up. Both are good role players, but neither has ever had to be the top receiver for a team.
The greater issue is quarterback Daniel Jones. He’s back from a torn Achilles and believes he’s ready for Week 1. But even a healthy quarterback needs someplace to throw the ball.
If both Pierce and Downs are still injured when the season begins, the Colts are dealing with more than just two problems. They’re looking at a receiving roaster that has less proven depth than they’ve had in years.
