The Dallas Cowboys have placed the second-round, $5.76 million tender on kicker Brandon Aubrey, according to Adam Schefter on X. The move secures Aubrey’s rights for the 2026 season while allowing him to negotiate with other teams. If Aubrey signs an offer sheet elsewhere, the Cowboys would have the right to match. Should they decline, Dallas would receive a second-round pick in return.

Aubrey emerged as one of the NFL’s most reliable kickers last year, converting 36 of 38 field goals and earning Pro Bowl honors. His consistency gave Dallas stability at a position that had been a revolving door in recent seasons. By placing the second-round tender, the Cowboys signaled how highly they value Aubrey’s contributions and potential long-term role.

Strategic Implications

The tender is a calculated move. At $5.76 million, it represents a significant investment in a kicker, but it also discourages rival teams from pursuing him. Any franchise interested in Aubrey would not only need to offer a competitive contract but also surrender a second-round draft pick if Dallas chooses not to match. That steep price makes it unlikely Aubrey leaves Dallas.

Cowboys’ Offseason Outlook

Dallas continues to reshape its roster after a disappointing playoff exit. Securing Aubrey provides stability on special teams while the front office focuses on other areas of need. With free agency and the draft approaching, the Cowboys are expected to prioritize depth at offensive line and defensive back, but locking in Aubrey ensures one less concern heading into 2026.

What’s Next

Aubrey can still negotiate with other teams, but the Cowboys’ tender gives them control of the situation. Unless a surprising offer sheet emerges, Aubrey is expected to remain in Dallas, where he has quickly become one of the league’s top kickers.

This move highlights the Cowboys’ commitment to retaining proven talent while balancing cap space and draft capital. Aubrey’s breakout season made him indispensable, and the second-round tender reflects that reality.
