Castle contributed 23 points to help Spurs open their quest to becoming the first team to come back from a 2-0 deficit in the finals by winning the NBA crown.
The Knicks got huge performances by Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby, who chipped in 32 and 28 points respectively, but it still wasn’t enough for them to overcome the efforts of Wembanyama and Spurs in general.
Fans who had waited patiently in lines with all of the additional security measures to enter into Madison Square Garden for the first time in NBA Finals since 1999 witnessed one of the most interesting NBA finals matches.
After all of the controversies and booing of president Donald Trump who showed up at MSG during the playing of national anthem, Spurs jumped out fast. They opened the game with two dunks from Wembanyama, who did not commit any turnovers in this match. His 10 points in the final period proved to be decisive as he helped Spurs build enough lead.
San Antonio Spurs made nine of its first 11 shots and took a double digit lead in 4½ minutes. The Knicks and their fans were frustrated by the poor refereeing and bad performance of their team and San Antonio Spurs took a 33-22 lead after the first quarter.

However, the crowd in MSG finally came alive with 11-2 run in the middle of the second quarter, which brought Knicks closer. Their fans had more to cheer about when their leading scorer Brunson hit a 26 footer in the last minute of the half and gave his team 64-57 halftime lead.
Spurs regained their lead during the third quarter but it did not last for long as Knicks pulled away again with 6-minute run to take the 105-100 lead with 3 minutes to go. The Spurs answered back with 11 unanswered points in the last two minutes and eventually held the lead.
Wembanyama’s two free throws in the final seconds sealed their win, giving the Knicks just 1 point margin after Anunoby’s 3-point shot in the corner with 6.8 seconds left. With Karl-Anthony Towns only contributing 11 points and Mikal Bridges being in foul troubles, Knicks could not match Spurs.
