Ousmane Dembele for PSG tonight, against Chelsea

Paris Saint-Germain lit up the Champions League stage on Wednesday night, with two returning stars making an immediate impact against Chelsea. YankeeSports reports

The Parc des Princes crowd witnessed moments of brilliance that hinted at a statement performance.

Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League campaign roared back to life as they swept Chelsea aside 5-2 in the round of 16 first leg. The night belonged to Ousmane Dembélé and João Neves, who returned from injury to spark a dominant performance at the Parc des Princes.

PSG struck after just 10 minutes. Dembélé’s cross from the right was headed down by Neves, allowing Bradley Barcola to finish from close range. The French side never looked back, with Chelsea struggling to cope with the pace and precision of Luis Enrique’s men.

Dembélé’s Ballon d’Or moment

Dembélé produced a stunning solo goal late in the first half. He accelerated from midfield, cut inside and then outside to beat Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana, before firing low past Filip Jørgensen. “His speed and lucid thinking showed the Ballon d’Or winner is getting back to his best,” said the commentator.

Despite PSG’s fast start, Chelsea showed resilience. Malo Gusto struck in the 28th minute to level the score at 1-1, finishing smartly after a quick move down the right. Later, Enzo Fernández equalized again in the 57th minute, making it 2-2 and briefly silencing the Parisian crowd.

Chelsea punished by errors

The third goal came from a costly mistake. Jørgensen passed straight to Barcola, who set up Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The Georgian forward found Vitinha, and the midfielder calmly lobbed the keeper. Kvaratskhelia then added two late strikes to seal a commanding lead.

Injury boost for PSG

Neves had been nursing an ankle problem since the Monaco playoff, while Dembélé shook off a calf injury. Their return allowed Enrique to field a near full-strength side, though Fabián Ruiz remained sidelined with a knee issue.

Looking ahead

PSG now take a healthy advantage into next Tuesday’s second leg at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea, who beat PSG 3-0 in last July’s Club World Cup final, face a huge task to overturn the deficit. With Dembélé and Neves back, PSG look primed to push deeper into the competition.
